Bamboo + Tie = Save the World

I'm all for supporting ecologically friendly items- eco bags, brown paper bag wrapping, recycled magazine accessories, etc. We should help however we can. Even the smallest things can make a BIG difference. Speaking of small things, the Bambowtie (bamboo bow tie) is a really interesting accessory that functions as the best conversation piece

These ties are made by the people living in Gawad Kalinga communities. Ten percent of the profits go into making "a bamboo nursery for reforestation and a playground for the children", according to Bamb EcoLogical Technology Inc., the makers of Bambowtie.  Isn't that so awesome? Talk about sustainable fashion. Haha!

All the ties are perfect gifts for eco-friendly family members, hipsters, fashion forward friends, and bohemian types.

I like the Classic Bambowtie for men. Guys can wear it as a tie with their polos or as a necklace with regular t-shirts. The tie is made of bamboo (of course) and the string is made of nylon.

Dimensions: Approximately 4.5" x 1.5" (115 mm x 37 mm).

The tie worn by the male model above is the Mini Classic which sports the same design as the Classic Bambowtie but in smaller dimensions. I'd go for the mini version for thinner men, or for girls (like me!).

Dimensions: Approximately 3.5" x 1.5" (89 mm x 37 mm).

They also have a Ladies Bambowtie which can be worn as a necklace. I personally prefer the Mini Classic over this one but to each her own.

You can purchase all the Bambowties at ava.ph for 650 pesos each or at the Human Heart Nature website for 499 pesos each (Mini Classic NOT available at Human Heart Nature).

Let's all help Mother Earth and the people at GK! I remember going to a GK community every year in high school to help build and paint houses. I especially loved teaching arts and crafts to all the kids. Knowing that buying these would help build a playground for them is a real bonus :)
