From the 90s: Polly Pocket

Polly Pocket was THE toy to have when I was a kid, for the girls at least. Tiny houses and even tinier figurines   were all the rage back then. If my sister loved Barbie, I loved Polly. LOL.

Apparently, Polly Pocket is still alive today so technically it isn't from the 90s. I don't know if little girls these days would still love to receive a Polly Pocket house for their birthday but I remember being the happiest little girl when I got mine from my parents.

This is exactly what I got. I loved how it would fold into a heart shaped bag which I carried around the house. The small figurines inside would make so much noise as I ran down the stairs. Haha!

Aside from the heart shaped "bag", I also had a few smaller Polly Pocket houses and this was one of them. I can't believe I even found a picture of the exact one! I don't remember why I loved playing with them so much. Seems like you can't do much really. Haha! Oh well. Gone are the days when playing meant pretending, making up stories and spending hours on the floor with inanimate objects.

From the 90s: Skydancers

I'm a 90s kid and I like to reminisce once in a while. Today's gift from the 90s is the Skydancer. It's a doll with foam wings. When you pull some string, the doll spins on its stand like a top and it eventually flies. I remember being so amazed and scared at the same time whenever I played with my Skydancer. My mom gave it to me when I was in grade school. I can't exactly remember how old I was then but I remember that I broke a few household items because of this toy. Sorry mom!

I don't think the tv show aired in the Philippines. Too bad. I would've been a loyal follower. Haha!

This is the dancer I got!

About a year ago, I found it in our bodega and it still worked! I couldn't believe it! When we moved houses, I think I gave it to my yaya's granddaughter so she could enjoy it for whatever it's worth.

Did you have one when you were a kid?

The Giving Tree

Picture from Amanda Talar

“Once there was a tree, and she loved a little boy.”

The Giving Tree was my favorite book growing up. My mom gave it to me as one of her attempts to get me into reading. She loves to read. She treasures books and giving her a gift certificate from Powerbooks or Fully Booked is a fail safe way to make her happy.

Back to the book, I have cried countless times reading The Giving Tree. There's just something about unconditional love and generosity that sparks something in my heart. Cheesy, I know. But SO TRUE. Like the tree in the book, I LOVE giving gifts. I love thinking about what the recipient of my gift would like, or what he/she (most often "he" the past year, with my boyfriend at the top of my list) is dying to have but can't seem to get for himself. I like going around malls and searching on the net, finding hunting for that perfect something. Then when I find it, I enjoy the gift wrapping too. I really believe presentation is everything (Okay not EVERYTHING but it's still very important).

I like making people happy. Plain and simple.

So this is a blog all about gift giving (because half the time I wish someone would write about gifts and where to find them here in the Philippines).
